Ingredients for
Aunt Ethel's Date Squares
Crust:
- 1 1/2 cup cooking oats
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup soft butter
- pinch of salt
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/2 cups flour
Combine and press 2/3 of mixture into a 9" square pan
Topping: cook and cool:
- 1 1/2 cups dates (chopped)
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 3 tsp. lemon and rind
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 tsp. butter
- 1/4 tsp. salt
